London: Scientists have come up with a worrying study of the British strain of the corona virus, which shows how fast the British strain of corona can spread.
A new study published in the medical journal Cell Reports Medicine found that the type B. coronavirus B.1.1.7 discovered in the UK was 45% more contagious than the original strain.
Data from 300,000 PCR tests were examined for this medical study, said Professor Ariel Mayntz. “We used a kit that tests three different viral genes, the British type of corona or B In 1.1.7, one of the three genes, the S gene, has been lost due to mutation, so we were able to track the spread of different types without genetic sequencing.
According to Professor Mayntz, laboratory data showed that the British variant of the corona was very fast, with only 5% of the positive results on December 24, 2020 coming from the British variety, but only 6 weeks later in January 2021, the British variety 90 Percentage of cases were due to corona, while the current figure is 99.5%.
“To illustrate this dramatic increase, we compared the original Corona virus’s R number to the British variant’s R number, in other words, we asked the average number of people who get the disease from someone who is infected,” he said. Swear too? So we found that the British variety is 45%, which is about one and a half times more contagious.
In the second phase of the study, researchers looked at different age groups, and found that a turning point in the case came when 50% of the population over the age of 60 received the first dose of the corona vaccine. In January, on the one hand, the rate of cases in the elderly fell and on the other hand, the rate of cases in other age groups continued to increase.
Dr. Dan Yaman said that 90% of the patients who died from corona were over 60 years of age, so we can say that the vaccine saved hundreds of lives, even in a short period of time.
It should be noted that the British variety of corona is spreading very fast in Pakistan as well. The Sindh Health Minister had said that the British variety was discovered in 50% of the cases in Karachi.
