A simple physical fitness test on one leg
LONDON: Although the one-legged balance test has been used for decades for physical and medical health, with a few modifications it can now be used in people over 50 for poor health or fitness.
According to experts, it is also a major cause of injury and death in the elderly, while it also proves the overall physical decline. In this regard, international experts in sports medicine have done some research on this by modifying the traditional test.
10 second test
Specialists at Bristol Medical School in the UK recruited people between the ages of 50 and 70 and asked them to lift their right or left leg and place the other leg behind their shin while keeping the arms straight as usual. In this condition he had to stay balanced on one leg for ten seconds. According to the picture below, the majority kept themselves in this position for at least ten minutes while some people stumbled and lost their balance.
“This is the first time that a balance test on the leg has been used for medical purposes,” said Satyurkunotser, an experimenter.
Those who could not stand were given the opportunity to balance three times. This is a simple test and the results are very clear. Experts surveyed more than 1,700 people from 2009 to 2020, but 350 of them could not stand on one leg, which means they will double to old age in the next five years.
According to experts, people who are out of balance have died due to many reasons including heart disease, cancer, diabetes and some even died at the hands of cod. However, it was also found that people with imbalances were already suffering from various diseases.
Statistically, those who do not have such a balance for ten seconds have an 84% higher risk of dying in the next ten years, meaning that this test can predict premature death. But it is not necessary to test this once and for all because there can be fluctuations in health.
But most of all, the test indicates that people are losing their balance, and in this ten-second test, the majority of those affected have fallen or been injured or died.
