200 drugs for various diseases can also cure corona virus
Cambridge: British scientists have identified 200 approved drugs for a variety of ailments that could also be used to treat “Covid 19”, a disease caused by the novel corona virus (SARS co 2).
Of these, 40 drugs are already being tested against Covid 19, while 160 drugs have emerged for the first time as a possible treatment for the corona virus.
Experts from Cambridge University, UK, have made this discovery using “computational biology” and “artificial intelligence” together.
It should be noted that in computational biology, research is done in the fields of biology and medicine using various methods and techniques of computer science.
Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, develops algorithms that enable a computer program / software to do its job automatically and learn on its own.
Using computational biology and artificial intelligence together, scientists have developed a complete and comprehensive map of all the proteins that act during corona virus infection. These included proteins that help the corona virus to enter the cell, and proteins that are formed after being infected with the corona virus.
In addition to identifying thousands of proteins, the researchers also identified biochemical pathways by which these proteins work or affect the human body.
In the final stages, the series was further computerized by approximately 2,000 drugs approved for the treatment of various diseases, and it was determined which of them would interfere with the action of corona virus-related proteins. Corona can help treat the virus.
After a detailed analysis, the computer program identified 200 of these drugs that could also be used to treat the corona virus. Of these, 40 drugs are already being tested against the corona virus, while another 160 drugs have not previously been linked to corona virus treatment.
From a practical point of view, when even the most effective of these drugs was found, two “best candidates” drugs emerged in the computerized model, one for malaria and the other for arthritis.
The research, published in the latest issue of the research journal “Science Advances”, focuses on treating Covid 19 with current / available medications, but also seeks better, lower-cost, and more effective treatment for other diseases in the future. Can be used.
